Description

These sketches are part of an ongoing practice in developing a visual language. Throughout the series I've been experimenting with different phrases, compositions, paper sizes & ways of presenting the work. I think it's the dimensions of these that make them some of my favorite yet.

I recently found a set of black frames I wanted to put back into use. After sorting through what I had, these three felt like the right ones to share together. When I realized the sketches looked best displayed over black, all I had were these smaller squares of scrap construction paper, so if you look closely you'll see the seams but it's subtle and speaks to the spirit of these studies.

"On Time" • Sometimes the ones without words end up being my favorite. I like the wider rings here, something I'm going to look to incorporate more of. There's a harmony in this one I hope to achieve more of in these.

"Universe..." • A line from Jay Electronica's "Better in Tune with the Infinite" that's always stayed with me and serves as as good reminder of how all this works around us.

"Chicago..." • A thought I keep coming back to, sparked by ongoing observations of what it feels like to experience a familiar energy emerging among the city's music scene.

Additional sketches & artifacts included in each order.
